Introduction

We have written a Leader's Guide for each of the situations where a  leader takes responsibility for the safety of volunteers.

The guides help task leaders by giving them the following information:

  • A suggested list of tools and equipment
  • A guide to the safe use of the tools that may be used
  • A guide to the hazards presented by the task or situation.

The Leader's Guides form the basis for the risk assessment and safety talk at the start of each task.

Task-specific Leader's Guides

We have created the task-specific guides by combining the advice of BTCV and our own experience.

The guides are in Word 97 format. The file size is shown in brackets:

Word logo Bonfires (29Kb)
Word logo Domestic activities on residential tasks (25Kb)
Word logo Dune and beach work (32Kb)
Word logo Fencing (52Kb)
Word logo Footpaths (35Kb)
Word logo Timber construction (35Kb)
Word logo Tree felling (30Kb)
Word logo Tree planting and tree weeding39Kb)
Word logo Wetlands and waterways (34Kb)

Note These guides are based on information and advice from BTCV. However, you should be aware that they were created by LCV for our own use, and they may contain errors. Use them at your own risk.
